Kannada filmmaker Yogaraj Bhat’s much anticipated romantic drama Gaalipata 2, which has Ganesh, Diganth and Pawan Kumar in the lead, along with Vaibhavi Shandilya, Samyukta Menon and Sharmiela Mandre, has zeroed in on its theatrical release date. The film, produced by Ramesh Reddy, will be in theatres on August 12, contrary to the earlier reports that the film was aiming for a good window before Sudeep’s Vikrant Rona. Yogaraj had said that he was targeting end of May, just before 777 Charlie’s release on June 10, but it looks like the team’s had a change of heart about this plan.
Taking to social media, lead actor Ganesh shared a poster of the film that read ‘Get ready to fly on August 12’, along with a note that said, “Mark the date. August 12th. Gaalipata 2 in theatres. This is Ganesh’s fourth film with Yogaraj Bhat, after Mungaru Male, Gaalipata and Mugulu Nage. The film also stars Nishvika Naidu and Anant Nag in pivotal roles.
Speaking at the release of the film’s first single, the Exam Song, producer Ramesh Reddy had spoken at length about how Sudha Murthy was responsible for him to take up Gaalipata 2. He also spoke about having produced four films so far and having failed each time and that he whole-heartedly wishes for success with Gaalipata 2. Ganesh quickly chimed in that the producer would not get by with just pass marks but would attain a distinction with Gaalipata 2. The film, which took off before the pandemic, was subsequently delayed multiple times, but was eventually completed, including an extensive schedule in Kazhakstan.
The 2008 release Gaalipata was a massive hit, so there is immense anticipation of the sequel, which has music by Arjun Janya and cinematography by Santhosh Rai Pathaje. The satellite and digital rights of Gaalipata 2 have already been sold to Zee Kannada and Zee5 respectively, although the team has been tight-lipped about the amount paid.
