Long-time buddies and frequent collaborators, director Preetham Gubbi and Golden Star Ganesh are currently in the midst of shooting their fourth project together (fifth if we count Mungaru Male too, which was written by Preetham), Baana Daariyalli. The film, according to the team, is not a love story, but a story about love. It pairs Ganesh with Rukmini Vasanth and Reeshma Nanaiah.
Preetham had first released not one, but two first looks of Ganesh, one as a cool surfboard sporting guy and another in what appears to be the African savanna. Subsequently, he revealed his leading ladies too – Rukmini as Leela, a water sport enthusiast and Reeshma as Kadambari, a wildlife photographer. Ganesh’s two looks are in sync with what his leading ladies are up to in the film.
Baana Daariyalli, which is currently in production, is to be shot in locations across Bengaluru, Chennai, Varanasi and Africa. The film is based on a story by cinematographer Preetha Jayaraman, for which Preetham has written the screenplay. The title of the film comes from the iconic song of the same name that was sung by the late Puneeth Rajkumar in 'Bhagyavantha'. The 1981 film starred the matinee idol, Dr. Rajkumar in the lead and featured Puneeth as a child artist (credited as Master Lohith) who also sang the song. Preetham thought that the name 'Baana Daariyalli' would be just apt for the story that brims with romance.
Yesterday, on Ganesh’s birthday, Preetham announced that he was targeting a Christmas 2022 release for Baana Dariyalli. The film had its official muhurtha at the end of May, with the team going on floors in early June. It appears that Preetham is looking at finishing the film quickly, as Ganesh is expected to join the set of director Suni’s The Story of Rayagada sometime in November.
