Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur hit theatres nine years ago today. The movie, which has gained a cult following since its release, featured some of the talented actors of the time and introduced fresh faces that have gone one to make it big in the industry.

While Manoj Bajpayee added another feather on his cap by playing Sardar Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui stood out as Faizal Khan. The leading ladies Huma Qureshi and Richa Chadha were lauded for their work as well. However, not many know that Vicky Kaushal was also part of the action thriller.

While his father Sham Kaushal was the film’s action director, Vicky was working as an assistant director. At times, assistant directors also double up as extras among the crowd. Talking about his appearance to Midday, the actor revealed, “It's the scene where Nagma Khatoon (Richa) goes to a brothel. Last minute, everyone (junior artistes) that we'd rounded up in Varanasi refused to participate in that scene, once they realised it's a brothel. The entire direction team stood in for them.”

Pointing out where exactly the audience can spot him, the actor said, “I'm that silhouette you see behind the window-grille, overacting karte hue, when Nagma Khatoon is cursing Sardar Khan! That was the first time I faced a camera.”

Vicky debuted alongside Richa Chadha in Neeraj Ghaywan’s Masaan, which also had Shweta Tripathi, Sanjay Mishra and Pankaj Tripathi. He later played the lead in Anurag’s Raman Raghav and Manmarziyaan.

Meanwhile, Vicky has completed the shooting schedules for his much-anticipated project Sardar Udham Singh, the biopic of revolutionary freedom fighter who sought revenge for the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar.
