Gautham Karthik has begun dubbing for his upcoming period film, August 16, 1947. Sharing a picture from the dubbing session, Gautham, took to his social media page, and wrote, "This one is close to my heart, I'm super excited and can't wait for you all to see the finished product! With your blessings (sic)." August 16, 1947 is directed by NS Ponkumar, a former associate of AR Murugadoss, who is bankrolling the film along with Om Prakash Bhatt and Narsiram Choudhary.

The 1-minute 42-second teaser was released recently and won a lot of appreciation from the audience. The plot is set in a village in the Tamil Nadu region that is fighting for freedom. The film's star cast includes Revathi Sharma and Pugazh. While Sean Roldan has scored the music for the film, Sudharsan R is in charge of the editing. Gautham had earlier stated that the film is based on real-life incidents, but is more of a fictionalised story set against India's freedom struggle. The film's shoot had to be halted intermittently due to the pandemic. The first-look poster was released earlier in which Gautham was seen in an intense look in a traditional dhoti attire with legions of people around him.

In the meantime, Gautham Karthik is also part of Silambarasan's Pathu Thala, which is helmed by Obeli S Krishna. The film is remake of the Kannada film Mufti, a neo-noir action thriller that starred Shivarajkumar, Sriimurali and Shanvi Srivasatava. The Kannada film was directed by debutant Narthan. This is the first time that Gautham Karthik and Simbu are coming together for a film. While Gautham has wrapped up his portions, Simbu's portions are being canned. The actor had to put a brake on the shoot as he had to fly down to the US for the medical treatment of his father, director T Rajender. Simbu has resumed work on all his pending projects.
