The film will explore the local political dynamics of Taramani in South Chennai, featuring Gautham as a 'local boy'

For the occasion of his birthday on Thursday, 12th September, actor Gautham Karthik announced a new project. The film, which is yet to get a title, is helmed by debutant director Dhina Raghavan, with known filmmaker Raju Murugan penning the dialogues.
Upcoming actor Gautham Karthik, who made his debut with Mani Ratnam’s Kadal and appeared in films like Pathu Thala and August 16, 1947, announced a new project on Thursday. The film will have dialogues penned by Raju Murugan, while his former assistant Dhina Raghavan will be making his directorial debut. Filmmaker Ganesh K Babu who made last year’s Dada is onboard as producer.
In a statement director Dhina Raghavan said, “The film will depict the local political dynamics of an area such as Taramani in South Chennai, utilizing straightforward events intertwined with elements of political satire while remaining close to the reality.”
Further speaking about the role played by Gautham Karthik, he described it to be a “local boy in the neighborhood, where politics is intense”. “This will be totally different from what he has done so far, and his character will make us feel like a boy in our home,” he added.
The film is tentatively titled GK 19 and is produced by APV Maran of MG Studios and Ganesh K Babu who helmed Kavin-starrer Dada. The official announcement on the film’s cast and crew will be revealed soon. The film is set to go on floors soon with the team planning for a summer 2024 release. A date is yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, Gautham Karthik has a slew of projects lined up. He has Criminal and Mr X. Gautham Karthik is also part of Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan’s upcoming project Thug Life. A release date for all these films has not been announced yet.
