The clock is ticking as Gehraiyaan is nearing its release. The Shakun Batra directorial is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on February 11 at the stroke of midnight. Ahead of the release, we got to know that the film has got an A (viewership of 18 years of age) certificate from the CBFC. Interestingly, this is the first time for the lead characters, Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday, and Dhairya Karwa, to be together. And also for Shakun Batra.
The film has been discussed a lot owing to the intimate sequences between Deepika and Siddhant while they indulge in infidelity. However, the makers and the cast have shared that the film goes much beyond the subject of cheating partners.
When asked about what intrigues him toward the complexities of relationships, Batra exclusively told OTTplay that it is his apprehension. He is not sure what one is looking for, if there's a mystery one wants to solve. It's not something he is doing consciously in order to make different films. But that's what piques his interest and draws him to the types of movies or books he has read.
It's always been a complex relationship, but now he is getting a more objective view of emotions because he feels like things are getting easier to understand. When one looks at it over time, Batra believes that when one does something very subjectively, it is impossible to study it.
When asked if the OTT release of Gehraiyaan is an advantage, the filmmaker revealed that he is overjoyed. Even two years ago, people would have thought he was crazy if he had said this, but Batra shared that he watched his favourite movies on a laptop screen. The movies that inspired him to become a filmmaker were those he saw on DVD.
Thus, he has developed a strong bond with films that he has seen on a TV or laptop screen. For him, once the film was completed, there was no reason for it not to be released to the public, especially given the current state of COVID-19 safety for people. He would prefer that it be consumed at home, and this is a win-win situation for him.
