Gehraiyaan: How Deepika Padukone’s film led to a bond between Siddhant Chaturvedi, Naseeruddin Shah

Gehraiyaan has been making waves for its unique and important storytelling that took the way relationships are explored on screen to new depths. The film is also being lauded for the impeccable performances by its stars, and it seems it also led to some unexpected bonds between some of them off-screen as well.

The film explores the story of Alisha and Zain, played by Deepika Padukone and Siddhant Chaturvedi respectively, who cheat on their respective partners by beginning an affair together, after they both bond over their past traumas. The film also sees Naseeruddin Shah essay the role of Alisha’s father, whom she has a troubled relationship with. Shah, a Bollywood veteran with multiple awards to his name, is not known as one of the friendliest figures in the industry and many on the sets of his films have also characterised him as being reclusive even. But the star reportedly developed an inexplicably close bond with his young co-star Chaturvedi.

The cast and crew of the film were taken aback when Shah talked of his fondness for Chaturvedi, with the two bonding over some of their shared passions and interests. The duo, both of whom have acted on stage, would reportedly discuss their experiences in theatre and also talk about their current art and projects. Chaturvedi also had conversations with the veteran on the latter’s new hobby of learning to play the flute.

The film is directed by Shakun Batra and produced under the banners of Dharma Productions, Viacom18 Studios and Jouska Films. The film also stars Ananya Panday, Dhairya Karwa and Rajat Kapoor.
