Neeraj Pandey’s Ghooskhor Pandat, featuring Manoj Bajpayee in the lead, was embroiled in a controversy soon after Netflix announced it with a teaser. The makers faced severe criticism for its ‘derogatory title’ and sought an action against the film for its alleged attempt to disrupt harmony. In a recent development on the title row, the Supreme Court on Thursday (February 19) closed the case after Neeraj Pandey withdrew the title and told the judiciary that the new title will not be similar.
Netflix’s awaited crime drama film Ghooskhor Pandat will no longer be holding the original title, as the makers have agreed to replace it with another one. Amid the title row controversy, Neeraj Pandey had told the Supreme Court that his intentions were never to hurt the sentiments of anyone or insult any religion/community. The filmmaker has now withdrawn the title, and the affidavit for the same has also been submitted in the court, leading to the closure of the case.

Justices B V Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan comprised the bench of the case and accepted Neeraj Pandey’s affidavit, where he claimed not to use the controversial title anymore. He also added that the revised title will be different from the original one. “I respectfully submit that the earlier title, Ghooskhor Pandat, stands unequivocally withdrawn and shall not be used in any manner whatsoever. Although the new title has not yet been finalised, I undertake that any title that may later be identified and adopted shall not be similar to, or evocative of, the earlier title,” the Special Ops director told ANI.
Netflix’s latest collaboration with Neeraj Pandey features Manoj Bajpayee as a morally corrupt cop. The 2026 lineup of original films and series by the streaming giant unveiled the first look of the crime drama film. However, after the title row and massive controversy, the makers took down all the promotional material. Neeraj Pandey and the Ghoosekhor Pandat team have finally got some relief after the Supreme Court disposed of the plea against the film, citing objection to its title and association with a certain community.
In a recent conversation as per PTI, Neeraj clarified that the new title will focus on the narrative and is currently in the works. “While the new title has not yet been finalized, I undertake that any title that may hereafter be identified and adopted shall not be similar to, or evocative of, the earlier title in respect of which objections were raised, and shall accurately reflect the narrative,” the filmmaker said.
Netflix’s gritty crime series (earlier titled Ghooskhor Pandat) features a corrupt police officer named Ajay Dixit, aka Pandat (played by Manoj Bajpayee), whose life changes when he gets tangled up in a deeper conspiracy. With a crime investigation and suspense-laden plotline, the movie is set to be a decent watch.
