The Kannada original film by director MG Srinivas had released during Dasara and had a decent box office outing
Century Star Shivarajkumar’s big Dasara outing was Ghost, an action heist thriller by director MG Srinivas. The Kannada original film released in theatres on October 19, in direct competition with biggies like Leo, Bhagavanth Kesari and Tiger Nageswara Rao and yet managed to have a good run at the box office. The film then made its way to OTT in about a month’s time, dropping on Zee5 Kannada on November 17. The Telugu version came a couple of weeks later and now, we hear that the Tamil version will also be out. Srinivas had earlier said that the digital rights of the film’s other language versions were being sold separately, and that it could go to multiple platforms, and, as it turns out, only Kannada and Tamil are with Zee Network. The Tamil version has gone to aha Tamil!
Srinivas’ film was promoted as a heist thriller that takes place in a prison, in a 48-hour time frame and, as stated, this was exactly what he brought to the table. Ghost is about the siege laid on a prison block, on the day that officials inaugurate a proposed privatisation venture. Turns out, the prison premise houses a stash of previously stolen gold and the gang that’s taken control of the prison wing is looking at smuggling it out. But can they get it all out without getting caught?
The film has Shivarajkumar in three distinct avatars, with one, the gangster portion as Big Daddy Dalavayi Muddanna becoming an instant hit and prompting the makers to float the idea of a spin-off movie. Also starring Malayalam actor Jayaram in a pivotal role, Ghost is the first film in Srinivas’ proposed cinematic universe that will merge his Birbal franchise with Ghost. Srinivas’ Birbal character Mahesh Das had a cameo in Ghost, while a Ghost character will be seen in Birbal 2 and so on and so forth.
