In one of the first implications of the new IT Act, Anurag Kashyap’s segment from Netflix’s Ghost Stories has come under radar. A scene from the horror anthology that shows Sobhita Dhulipala’s character consuming her foetus post her miscarriage has been flagged as “unnecessary” for the film, according to a complaint.
As reported in Mid-Day, the lawsuit was filed after the Information Technology Rules 2021 by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting came into being. The complaint states that the particular scene was not required in the story, so either the scene shouldn’t have been there, or a trigger warning must have been displayed for the women who have gone through the trauma of miscarriages.
Soon after the complaint reached Kashyap, the Gangs Of Wasseypur director took to his Instagram stories and wrote, “So it has started... A complaint came to Netflix on Ghost Stories. This is the end.” However, the story was later deleted.
Ghost Stories consists of four different dark tales featuring supernatural spirits. The four segments are helmed by Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee, Kashyap and Karan Johar, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Manmarziyaan director is currently busy with the post-production of one of his films titled Bansuri: The Flute, which has been directed by Hari Viswanath. The filmmaker is also working on his directorial Dobaara, which has Taapsee Pannu. The upcoming thriller movie marks the third collaboration of the duo.
