The sequel to 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife brings the new and old Ghostbusters together to protect the world from a deadly ice age
When the people of New York City froze to death in the middle of July, with the last thing they see being their own tear ducts freezing up, following a ‘death chill’, it’s up to the Ghostbusters to fight this supernatural power that can kill by fear. It’s the literal being scared to death situation, with veins turning into rivers of ice and bones cracking. The teaser of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, which dropped moments ago, features Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Logan Kim, Carrie Koon, McKenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor, Kumail Nanjiani, James Acaster, Annie Potts, William Atherton Patton Oswalt, Emily Alyn Lind and Ernie Hudson, among others, as we are shown sunny sweltering New York being transformed into the Ice Queen’s paradise.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has been directed by Gil Kenan, who co-wrote it with Jason Reitman, the maker of the previous Ghostbuster instalment – Afterlife and Jason Blumenfeld. Reitman is the son of late filmmaker Ivan Reitman, who had made the original Ghostbuster movie. The latest film is set for a spring of 2024 release, with multiple reports suggesting that it will be in theatres across the globe on March 29. Frozen Empire is the sequel to 2021’s Afterlife, which followed the Spengler family, who discover supernatural occurrences in their new home, with the help of a teacher played by Rudd.
According to the official synopsis of the film, Frozen Empire sees the gang return to the New York City firehouse, the original headquarters of the Ghostbusters crew, where they’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.
