After Godzilla and Kong’s iconic battle, and defeat of the rogue Mechagodzilla in 2021 hit Godzilla vs. Kong, the kingly Titans are back to face a new threat, together this time. Legendary-verse's latest release will be the first project to be directed by a filmmaker who has previously directed a MonsterVerse film. The writers' team comprises of Simon Barett, Terry Rossio, and Moon Knight-famed Jeremy Slater.
Helmed by Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard, the film will star several old cast members, who will reprise their roles. Godzilla X Kong will feature Rebecca Hall as Dr. Ilene Andrews, Kaylee Hottle as Jia, and Brian Tyree Henry as conspiracy theorist Bernie Hayes, along with Dan Stevens, Rachel House, Alex Ferns, Fala Chen, Mercy Cornwall.
The official plot synopsis for Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire reads, “This latest entry in the Monsterverse franchise follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our own world, challenging their very existence- and our own.”
The synopsis concluded with, “The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins, and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.”
Though the official synopsis reveals little, the teaser reveals a new ape-like Titan, Skar King as the new villain. Releasing theatrically on April 12, 2024, the film will herald the next chapter of magnificent monsters and mayhem.
