There’s no denying that director Alphonse Puthren has a huge fan base in Tamil Nadu and that’s one of the possible reasons that the makers had decided for a simultaneous release of both the Malayalam and Tamil versions of the Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara film on December 1 in the State. However, this has not worked out as planned.

While Gold was set to have a worldwide release on December 1, the movie has faced a hurdle in Tamil Nadu. However, it’s not a huge cause of worry as the Malayalam version of the movie will hit theatres in the State as planned on December 1, but the Tamil dubbed version will be delayed by a day.

Several theatres had cancelled the shows that were listed for the Tamil version, stating that the decision was taken as there was delay in the censoring of the dubbed version. Alphonse had in fact submitted the final output last week to the producers. The Malayalam version was screened for the regional censor board members earlier this week and had received an ‘U’ rating, which is also expected for the Tamil version. The delay in the dubbing had a domino effect, prompting the makers to push the release of the dubbed version to December 2.

Meanwhile, the movie will have the widest release ever for a Prithviraj-starrer, with it playing in over 1,300 theatres worldwide on December 1. The film, which is touted to be a dark comedy thriller, has already done pre-release business of Rs 50 crore with the makers selling its OTT rights to Amazon Prime Video, satellite rights to Surya TV and overseas rights to Truth Global Films.

The team, which had completed the majority of its shoot last year, had headed for reshoots last month. The movie also has Saiju Kurup, Jaffer Idukki, Deepti Sati and Roshan Mathew in pivotal roles.
