Fans of director Alphonse Puthren will now finally be able to stream the Malayalam version of his comeback directorial, Gold, on Amazon Prime Video. The Prithviraj Sukumaran comedy entertainer dropped on the streaming platform on December 29 at 12am.
Both the Malayalam and Tamil versions of the film were expected to begin streaming simultaneously on the OTT platform. However, it now seems that the Tamil version will be delayed. Alphonse has a huge fan base in Tamil Nadu too, post his films – Neram and Premam, which were hits in the State.
The producers of Gold had faced several difficulties while releasing the movie in theatres. The initial plan was for the film to hit theatres in September, during the Onam festive season. However, this was pushed, as Alphonse was not satisfied with the final product. The filmmaker then headed for reshoots with the cast.
The movie hit theatres in Kerala on December 1. Again, the plan was a simultaneous release in both Malayalam and Tamil, but this too fell through. The Malayalam movie released as planned but the Tamil version was delayed further. Sources from the team said that since the final output was delivered to the producers in the last week of November, there was a delay in dubbing the movie in Tamil.
The Tamil version finally hit theatres only on December 16. The two-week window before its OTT release could be the reason Gold’s Tamil-dubbed version is delayed. The Tamil version, however, is expected to release in January 2023.
Gold, which is produced by Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames, is a comedy revolving around a pick-up truck with smuggled gold that is found abandoned in front of the protagonist’s house one day. How he decides to make the best out of the opportunity forms the plot of the film, which also has Nayanthara, Baburaj, Jagadish, Roshan Mathew, Chemban Vinod Jose, Deepthi Sati, Vinay Forrt, Sharafudheen and Krishna Sankar in pivotal roles.
