The 80th edition of the Golden Globe Awards swept the silver screen today, with some of the most popular movies of the year in contention to take home the coveted golden trophy. The past year saw a number of fine performances take the silver screen by storm, which the awards made sure to honour this year. Cate Blanchett, Austin Butler and Michelle Yeoh were among the stars who took home the gold in acting categories for their impeccable performances in motion pictures.

Cate Blanchett bagged the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama, for her performance in Tár. The Oscar winning actress, who was not present at the event, beat out fellow nominees such as Olivia Colman (Empire of Light), Viola Davis (The Woman King), Ana de Armas (Blonde) and Michelle Williams (The Fabelmans), to take home the crown.

The Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama trophy was bagged by Austin Butler for his powerhouse performance as the titular protagonist in Elvis wins. Brendan Fraser (The Whale), Hugh Jackman (The Son), Bill Nighy (Living) and Jeremy Pope (The Inspection) were also nominees for the award.

Everything Everywhere All at Once made a mark both in the hearts of critics and audiences. The film’s star Michelle Yeoh won the trophy for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Her co-star Ke Huy Quan was declared the Best Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture, in his first Golden Globe nomination and win.

The award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy was bagged by Colin Farrell for his role in The Banshees of Inisherin. The film also earned the title of being the film with the most nominations this year, being nominated in eight categories.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Angela Bassett won the Best Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture award.
