It was a fiery night indeed at the Golden Globe Awards 2023, with House of the Dragon finding itself nominated in two categories at the prestigious awards this year. The Game of Thrones prequel series was nominated for Best Drama Television Series, with lead star Emma D’Arcy also being nominated in the Best actress in a TV series – drama category as well. The fantasy drama took home the gold when it was declared as the Best Drama Television Series at the 80th Golden Globe Awards.
The series is set almost two centuries before the events of Game of Thrones, when House Targaryen rules over the Seven Kingdoms, after uniting them in the Targaryen conquest. The series follows the events that take place when princess Rhaenyra is declared next in line to the throne, and how her right to the crown is challenged. The series is based on the novel Fire & Blood, written by George R R Martin.
Paddy Considin, Emma D'Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith and Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno, Graham McTavish and Ryan Corr star in the series. Part of the review for the show on OTTplay reads “HBO’s House of the Dragon is an excellent addition to the Game of Thrones franchise. It features exciting characters, compelling storylines, and of course, dragons”.
House of the Dragon, created by Ryan J. Condal and George R. R. Martin, is available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
The 80th Golden Globe Awards also saw The Banshees of Inisherin beign declared the Best film – musical or comedy, while Abbott Elementary won the award for Best TV series – musical or comedy. The Fabelmans won in the Best film – drama category, while The White Lotus: Sicily was adjudged the Best limited series, anthology series or TV movie.
The awards took place at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. The ceremony was live streamed in India by LionsgatePlay and was also available for streaming on OTTplay Premium.
