Kannada filmmaker Preetham Gubbi has a long association with Golden Star Ganesh, dating back to when they were students at a Film and Technology institute. As a filmmaker Preetham has directed his buddy thrice already and is gearing up for the release of their fourth, but he is also the man who catapulted Ganesh to the superstardom he enjoys today, as the writer of the mega hit, Mungaru Male. Naturally, when Preetham and Ganesh reunite, there are expectations.
This time around, he has written a tale that he describes as not a love story, but a story about love, in which Ganesh is a cricketer. There are two leading ladies in the film, Rukmini Vasanth, as a surfer, and Reeshma Nanaiah as a wildlife photographer. The film was supposed to be Preetham’s Christmas 2022 presentation, but then he bowed out of that race when Shivarajkumar’s milestone 125th Vedha was also announced for the same date. The filmmaker then bid his time and zeroed in on March 17 as the release date, but his film was yet again displaced, when R Chandru came around with his pan-India venture, Kabzaa.
When we checked in with Preetham recently, he said that he will announce the new date that he’s fixed for Baanadariyalli’s release on Valentine’s Day (February 14), but that’s not all. He’s also going to present the first teaser of the film on that day. This should be interesting, given that both the songs that he has released so far only featured Ganesh and Rukmini and there’s been no glimpse of Reeshma yet.
Social media banter suggests that Preetham could be eyeing a mid-April release for Baanadariyalli, confirmation of which will happen on February 14. It does look likely, as the filmmaker will skip a March release, now that Ganesh is playing on this season of Celebrity Cricket League and will be busy over the next few weekends.
