In Vaalee, Ajith Kumar rocked two characters as identical twins with contrasting personalities. Directed by SJ Suryah, the actor played both the protagonist and the antagonist opposite Simran (who also makes an appearance in Good Bad Ugly). Ajith plays a man who falls in love with a girl, and gets married, only to bring her home to the danger of his twin, who is lusting after his sister-in-law. There is a special tribute to Vaalee in GBU, where Ajith not only makes his villainy mannerism, but also rekindles his chemistry with Simran as Priya.

Billa 2 is an action drama directed by Chakri Toleti, and a prequel to Billa. The film features Ajith as a notorious gangster, David Billa, who has built his own empire from scratch. There are enough and more dialogues borrowed from the film, which are used in GBU, with Ajith's character being hailed as a don in Malaysia and going by the name Billa before his reformation as AK. If not for this, you also get a reminiscence of Ajith in the classic all-black suit and coolers in GBU, the iconic attire of Billa.

Dheena, directed by AR Murugadoss, was one of the crucial films which transformed Ajith into an action hero. It was in this film too, the actor earned his nickname Thala, which was later advised not to be used by Ajith himself. In GBU, Ajith can be seen sporting his Dheena attire, closely recalling the actor's earlier days, even without using de-ageing technology.

One cannot forget Mankatha, Ajith’s 50th film and directed by Venkat Prabhu. From playing its theme music, to Ajith’s anti-hero portrayal, Mankatha remains the favourite among Ajith fans. Trisha’s character Ramya in GBU recalls how AK had killed her father by pushing him off the car, recalling the incident from Mankatha in which the anti-hero did the same thing.

Red

Red is a commercial actioner helmed by Singampuli, who is now a popular comedian. It was in Red, Ajith’s short and sweet punch dialogue, ‘adhu’ became popular. The word found place at multiple instances in GBU as well.
