As a filmmaker, Rakshit Shetty has an exciting array of films lined up. For starters, by the end of the year, he will go on floors with his first directorial in nine years, Richard Anthony, which he is making for Hombale Films. This film, according to Rakshit, is about his character Richie from Ulidavaru Kandante and serves as a prequel and sequel to the story of the original film. Thereafter, the actor-filmmaker wants to get cracking on Punyakoti, which he has envisioned as a two-part story. And then, he will make Midway to Moksha, the film that should see the RRR of Kannada cinema – Rakshit, Raj and Rishab – come together onscreen. Put together, these films should easily take up the next five years at least and Rakshit has clarified that he wants to focus on bringing these tales to the big screens, considering that he’s lived with these stories for a while.
Rakshit has said that he will act in his directorials, but will cut down on acting gigs outside of these films, with one of the exceptions that he is willing to make being with director Hemanth M Rao, whose Sapta Sagaradaache Ello he is currently promoting. To be released in two parts, with the first coming to theatres this Friday, Sapta Sagaradaache Ello pairs Rakshit with Rukmini Vasanth and Chaithra J Achar. The second part, called Side B, will be out on October 20. Talking to a Kannada digital publication, Rakshit reiterated his upcoming lineup, but added that he was looking forward to making another film with Hemanth sometime in between his directorials.
Back in 2018, Hemanth had announced a film called Tenali with Rakshit in the lead. The film was to be a detective tale set in pre-Independence era, with Rakshit in the title role. The duo had even done a look test for the same, but then Hemanth got busy with Kavaludaari, also a film he wanted to do with Rakshit, but ended up making with Rishi. Tenali, Rakshit said, is still on the cards and that he and Hemanth need to figure out when they can execute it. The actor-filmmaker did not give any indication if his proposed directorial with Kiccha Sudeep in the lead – Thugs of Malgudi – will be revisited at any point.
