Akshay Kumar and Anand L Rai joined hands for the recent release Rakshabandhan which unfortunately didn't do very well at the ticket window. The actor-director duo announced another collaboration in October 2021 titled Gorkha. A movie titled Gorkha, supposedly based on Major General Ian Cardozo's valour in the war of 1971, had been announced by actor Akshay Kumar. However, he has now opted to drop out of the project. Fans have been asking the actor for an update and wondering if the Aanand L Rai production which was first announced in October 2021 has been put on hold.
According to a source, Akshay made the decision to leave the Sanjay Puran Singh directed film when concerns were raised about the veracity of the plot. The makers released the superstar's first look from the film last year and fans have been looking forward to it since then.
Hindustan Times quoted a source as saying, “Some veterans from the unit that participated in the war alongside Major General Cardozo reached out, putting major question marks on Major General Cardozo’s version of the events. The actor has utmost respect for the armed forces and does not want to associate with a story which may have a shadow of doubt.”
During the 1971 conflict, Major General Cardozo allegedly used a khukri to amputate his own leg after stepping on a landmine. When questioned about the movie in August of last year, Rai responded that they were still working on it and that production will begin as soon as the script was finalised.
When contacted, Askhay Kumar's spokesperson acknowledged that he is no longer working on the movie without any other information. Well, Akshay and the Gorkha makers are yet to react officially to it.
Meanwhile, Akshay's lineup includes Selfiee and the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru.
