The 67th Grammys unfolded in the West today, and the world is talking about it. The fact that many iconic things happened tonight—from Taylor Swift’s coded dress to Beyoncé taking home the top honor after being eligible for it for many years—is making headlines. But while there are so many things to celebrate about the night, a fair share of netizens have been left upset by one thing: the Grammys team overlooking the legendary Zakir Hussain’s legacy and not giving him a mention in the In Memoriam segment at the awards night. This has left fans of the maestro, who passed away last year, upset about the move. Read on to know everything you should about the same.
In case you are uninitiated, the Grammys honor the leg acies of artists and legends who have passed away in the year before the event. The honor is indeed a very important tribute as it puts the artist and his art on the world map, making it even more eternal than it already is. This year, fresh out of his concert in India, Coldplay lead Chris Martin, with guitarist Grace Bowers, performed the In Memoriam tribute as the Grammys continued to honor those who left behind an unparalleled legacy in the world of music. However, Zakir Hussain’s name was missing from the list, which has left many fans angry.
During the live event, the Grammys honored musicians such as Liam Payne, Kris Kristofferson, Cissy Houston, Tito Jackson, Joe Chambers, Jack Jones, Mary Martin, Marianne Faithfull, Seiji Ozawa, and Ella Jenkins. But Zakir Hussain was missing. Reacting to the same, a fan wrote, “Shame not to see 4-time winner and multiple-time nominee Zakir Hussain in the Grammy tribute to artists lost recently. Real shame.”

Surprisingly, it was only last year before his death that Zakir Hussain took home three Grammys, and the fact that he was still missing from the In Memoriam segment is even more shocking for the fans who cannot digest it. “Mind-boggling that Zakir Hussain wasn’t given a tribute tonight. He had won four Grammys himself and was a huge influence even on Western culture,” another fan wrote.
Zakir Hussain died on December 15 from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in a San Francisco hospital. He was 73. His death is one of the biggest losses to India, as the legend represented the country and took Indian classical music to the world map.
