Anushka Sharma is leaving no stone unturned in prepping for her role in Chakda Xpress. The film follows Jhulan Goswami, one of the fastest female pacers in world cricket history, as she rises through the ranks despite the numerous obstacles given by misogynistic politicians to achieve her one goal: to play cricket.
Anushka took to her social media pages and shared a few photos from her training session. In the photos, the actor is seen practicing how to bowl and looks as fit as a fiddle. Anushka captioned her post as "Grip by grip #prep #ChakdaXpress @netflix_in @jhulangoswami @officialcsfilms @prositroy @kans26."
Goswami even commented on the actor's post, stating, "Very nice."
While talking about Chakda Xpress, Anushka said in a statement that it's a truly unique film because it's essentially a story about tremendous sacrifice. The first season of Chakda Xpress is based on the life and times of former Indian captain Jhulan Goswami and will provide an insight into the world of women's cricket. When Jhulan decided to become a cricketer and represent her country on the international stage, it was extremely difficult for women to even consider taking up the sport. This film is a dramatic retelling of several events in her life as well as in women's cricket.
The actor went on to say that, from support systems to facilities, to having a stable income from playing the game, to even having a future in cricket, very little compelled Indian women to pursue cricket as a profession. Jhulan had a tumultuous and uncertain cricketing career, but she remained determined to make her country proud. She worked hard to change the stereotype that women cannot make a career out of playing cricket in India, so that the next generation of girls would have a more level playing field. Her life is a living testament to the fact that passion and perseverance triumph over any and all adversities, and Chakda Xpress is the definitive look into the not-so-rosy world of women's cricket back then.
She concluded by saying that there's still much work to be done, and we must provide them with the best resources possible so that women's sports can thrive in India.
Chakda Xpress is being helmed by Prosit Roy.
