Popular Kannada rapper, composer and former Bigg Boss Kannada winner Chandan Shetty is set to make the transition from behind the camera to in front of it with his first full-fledged acting gig. Chandan is the leading man of actor-filmmaker Sujay Shastry’s latest directorial, a comedy called Elra Kaaleliyatte Kaala, which will be in theatres shortly.

In the film, which is set in an earlier era, Chandan plays a slightly overweight government employee, trying to shed those extra pounds. The film pairs Chandan with Archana Kottige, while Tara, Mandya Ramesh, Manju Pavagada, Dattanna, among others, play pivotal characters. When OTTplay had earlier spoken to Sujay, the filmmaker had said that he wanted to only explore Chandan the actor with his film and that he would not involve him in the music department.

Yet now, the team has released a promotional song called Tun Tun, featuring Chandan and Ragini Dwivedi, which has music by the former. Chandan has also sung the dance number along with Mangli. It has been choreographed by Murali master.

In an earlier conversation with OTTplay, Sujay had said that he ran into Chandan on the set of the TV reality show Raja Rani and found his personality to be quite enterprising, which urged him to narrate the idea of the film. Chandan, who was on the lookout for the right script to make his acting debut really liked the story of Elra Kaaleliyatte Kaala and then everything fell into place.

Acting, meanwhile, is going to be a mainstay for Chandan, who has been quoted as saying that after winning Bigg Boss Kannada season 5, he had been looking for opportunities to make the switch to the big screen. While his music, both his solo numbers as well as compositions for films will continue, Chandan is keen to explore the actor in him at the moment. In fact, even before his debut hits theatres, Chandan has already signed up for his next, a whodunit thriller, for which he has been buffing up. Called Suthradara, the film has Chandan in the role of an investigator. He also fills in as composer for the film.
