In a recent interview, James Gunn opened up about the new Guardians of the Galaxy film, which is set to release in cinemas on May 5, 2023. The filmmaker spoke about the constraints of sticking to a big budget provided for the project.
Gunn said that if he had it his way, the threequel would cost about a half a billion dollars to make. However, he explained that adhering to a budget is something he is always cognizant of.
"No. I innately think about budget while I'm writing, always. Even something as big budgeted as (GOTG) Volume 3 is still a struggle. You know, it's still a struggle to make it fit the budget because you want a movie to be half a billion dollars. If I had half a billion dollars, I could kind of do pretty close to what I want. That's how hard it is. I'm always having to think about budget and make concessions because of budget, but oftentimes it leads to good things. You oftentimes are forced to rethink something and you have to come up with a creative solution," Gunn told Collider.
In the same interview, the filmmaker said that the new film will be unlike what people are expecting, and that he and Kevin Feige are stoked to share it with the audience.
The first Guardians of the Galaxy film released in 2014, followed by Volume 2 in 2017. Both films are available to stream on Disney+ Hotstar in India.
