In her career spanning more than a whopping 25 years (and counting), actress Hetal Yadav has not just won hearts, but also the attention of many. Testimonies to her acting prowess stand in the form of TV shows like ‘Imlie’ and many others. After having started off being a background dancer, Hetal has definitely travelled a long way to be playing principle characters in many shows. The actress exclusively spoke to ‘OTTplay’ on the auspicious occasion of Gudi Padwa.

Hi Hetal! To start with, what does the festival ‘Gudi Padwa’ mean to you?
Gudi Padwa is a very auspicious day according to the Hindu calendar and mythology. I remember reading somewhere that this is the day when Lord Brahma created the Universe. ‘Gudi Padwa’ is the first day in the lunar calendar. People celebrate this auspicious day by different names such as Ugadi, Chaitinat, etc. Though the names and rituals change, the celebration remains the same. I celebrate all the Indian festivals and festivals. For me, this is a very auspicious day.

Do you celebrate Gudi Padwa?
Like I said, I celebrate every Indian festival. I am just waiting for someone to treat me with puran poli (laughs heartily).

Can you tell us the significance of Gudi Padwa in your life?
Not only Gudi Padwa, but every festival holds immense significance in my life because some kind of history has definitely happened on this day. That’s why there is a reason that these days are celebrated. For example, I celebrate my son’s birthday and it is very auspicious for because he was born that day and I became a mother that day.

Has anyone gifted you anything on Gudi Padwa? If yes, then what?
Yes, all my friends are sending me Gudi Padwa wishes and I feel that is the biggest gift one can send. Taking out time, sending messages, voice notes and calling someone to wish them good is the best gift according to me.

Have you gifted anything to anyone on Gudi Padwa? If yes, then what?
No, I have not gifted anyone anything on this special occasion. I generally donate things whenever it’s is possible for me. May be today I’ll donate something; I’m waiting for my early pack up. Because, after the pack up, I can go to temple and I’ll donate something there.

What will you be doing today, on the day of Gudi Padwa?
Today, I will be working. I’m grateful to God that I’m working on the first day of the year. It is said in Hindu shastra that whatever you do on the New Year, you will be doing that for the rest of the year. Also, today, my grandmother (who has been admitted) will be getting discharged from the hospital. Once she gets discharged, I will treat her with a good dinner. Also that, I am hoping to eat lots of puran poli.

What special food will you be making for the occasion?
Everything for me revolves around puran poli today. In case, I don’t get to go out for dinner with my mother and my grandmother, I’ll go home and try puran poli. Because… I’m simply craving for it.

If you had to make a wish on Gudi Padwa for you or anyone in your life, what would that be and for whom would you wish for?
Not one yaaa… I have three wishes, to be honest! I actually make a wish every day. I close my eyes in front of God and pray to God to bless my family with the best of the health. Secondly, I always pray to God that I want to work all throughout my life and that’s why, I tell God to show me the right directions. Thirdly, I always pray for every mother that she should be happily seeing their children prosper and achieve their goals in life.
