Veteran Bollywood actor Farrukh Jaffar passes away at 89, in Lucknow. According to PTI reports, she was unwell due to breathlessness and was admitted to the hospital. The actor was last seen playing Fatima Begum in Shoojit Sircar's Gulabo Sitabo alongside Amitabh Bachchan.
Many from the film industry shared their condolences to her family and joined them in mourning the loss of the most senior actor. Juhi Chaturvedi, the screenwriter of Gulabo Sitabo took the news to social media and wrote her a tribute. ‘Begum is gone Farrukh ji, there is no one and there will be no one like you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing us to connect with you. Please stay safe in the other world of Allah’, she penned.
Jaffar entered into the cinema industry during the 80s, with the classic movie Umrao Jaan, in which she played the role of Rekha’s mother. Even though she took a long break, she came back to the field in the 2000s, with many critically acclaimed films like Swades, Parched and Sultan. She also portrayed notable performances in the Aamir Khan-backed Peepli Lives and Salman Khan-starrer Sultan. She also played a memorable role in Photograph, in which she essayed the role of Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s grandmother.
Jaffar is best known for winning the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress in Gulabo Sitabo and thus becoming the oldest winner of the award. She was also highly praised for her role and received many compliments.
