Gumraah, a crime thriller starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Mrunal Thakur, and Ronit Roy, hit theatres on Friday. According to reports, the movie made Rs 1.25 crore on Saturday after earning Rs 1.10 crore on Friday. The total now stands at Rs 2.35 crore.
Gumraah, a remake of the popular Tamil film Thadam from 2019, released to underwhelming box office sales and earned only average reviews from critics. In the ten years since Aashiqui 2, Aditya, who was last seen in the Disney Plus Hotstar series The Night Manager, has only delivered one successful lead performance. On the other hand, Mrunal returns to the cinema following his well-received performance in Sita Ramam.
Gumraah had a 12.52% overall Hindi occupancy on Saturday. The last week's releases, Dasara by Nani and Bholaa by Ajay Devgn, which have both been doing well at the box office, presented competition for the movie. Bholaa made an estimated Rs 4.25 crore on its tenth day, and Dasara generated an estimated Rs 2.50 crore in sales.
This year, Gumraah is the third South Indian movie to be dubbed into Hindi. Each of these movies did poorly at the box office. Shehzada, a previous adaptation of the Telugu film Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo starring Kartik Aaryan, underperformed at the box office and finished its run with just Rs 32.20 cr. Selfiee, a remake of the Malayalam film Driving License starring Akshay Kumar, suffered the same fate and only made Rs 16.85 cr when it was in theatres.
