Guns & Gulaabs trailer: Rajkummar Rao, Dulquer Salmaan starrer is a homage to 1990s Bollywood, blending comedy, action and romance

Netflix has released the first trailer of its upcoming series Guns & Gulaabs, starring Rajkummar Rao, Dulquer Salmaan, Adarsh Gourav, Gulshan Devaiah in the lead roles. The series is a homage to 1990s Bollywood, blending comedy, action and romance in a retro style.

The trailer takes us in the 1990s, in the wild world of cinemascope where a high-stakes transaction takes place. The Netflix comedy blends genres as it follows a lovestruck mechanic, a reluctant heir to a governing gang, and an honest officer-turned-agent-of-chaos against the backdrop of hilarious power struggles and vengeance schemes. The wonderful innocence that comes with growing up in a small town, complete with heartbreaks, betrayal, and a world of firsts, is also experienced by a trio of schoolmates, who adds to this. 

The series is created by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K., popularly known as Raj & DK, who are known for their quirky and offbeat shows like The Family Man and Farzi. The duo have teamed up with Netflix for a multi-year creative partnership under their banner D2R Films. 

Speaking of their first collaboration with Netflix, Raj & DK share, "Guns & Gulaabs has been an exhilarating journey for us! This time we went back to our favourite territory... embracing the storytelling style of our earlier films (99, Shor In The City). And somewhere along this process, we found ourselves creating a genre-mash in a pulpy, retro style. Netflix has been a like-minded partner sharing the same unbridled passion as us to present this unique, quirky story. And it marks the beginning of an exciting collaboration that we hope audiences will embrace."

The cast of the show also includes T.J. Bhanu, Pooja Gor and the late Satish Kaushik in one of his last screen appearances.

The trailer promises a lot of fun, action and nostalgia, as Raj & DK pay tribute to the cinema of their childhood. The series also features some popular songs from the 90s.

Guns & Gulaabs will stream on Netflix from August 18, 2023.
