The festive occasion of Sri Rama Navami saw five major films hitting the big screens as part of the extended weekend. The influx allowed the audiences to savour diverse content and also witness many big names in action - from Daali Dhananjaya, Nani, Simbu to Ajay Devgn, it was stars galore at the movies.
For the Kannada cinema moviegoers, it was an opportunity to witness Dhananjaya turn on his intense cop mode in Gurudev Hoysala and judging by the word on the street and on social media, the film has successfully charmed everyone. From the taut narrative to the central performances of Dhananjaya and Naveen Shankar, the audiences are raving about a number of aspects of the film and the general response from those who have watched it has been incredibly positive.
However, despite the solid response, Gurudev Hoysala is yet to get going at the box office. As per the latest trade reports the film has managed to collect approx. Rs. 0.90 crores (net) at the domestic box office, over the first three days of its release and it wouldn't be unfair in saying that the performance so far is slightly underwhelming.
Gurudev Hoysala released on March 30 all over Karnataka and many chosen overseas locations. The overseas box office collections remain undisclosed.
One could attribute the below-part start to the competition that surrounded the film. Nani-starrer Dasara emerged as the most-loved and watched film and the film's superb box office performance thus far reflects just that. The 'rustic' action drama, which also stars Keerthi Suresh and Dheekshith Shetty, has reportedly collected close to Rs. 46 crores (net) already in India with a worldwide collection of more than Rs. 70 crores (gross).

Dasara, which released in five different languages including Telugu, has outdone Gurudev Hoysala in Karnataka and the same trade reports reveal that the former has already more than Rs. 4 crores in the state. Dasara has also fared much better in comparison with Bholaa and Pathu Thala at the box office: the latter two are said to have earned Rs. 30.60 crores and Rs. 10.10 crores (respectively) so far at the domestic box office.
