Disney has announced the release date of their yet another live-action film Little Mermaid. Starring Halle Bailey in the titular role, the film is slated for a Memorial Day weekend release in 2023. Currently, Disney has announced two theatrical releases including Eternals which is hitting the screens in November this year. While the other release is West Side Story which will hit the silver screens the very next month.

Talking about Little Mermaid, the film also features Jonah Hauer-King, Javier Bardem and Melissa McCarthy in supporting roles. While Daveed Diggs, Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina have been roped in for the voice roles.

In July this year, Halle took to her Instagram page and shared a photo from the sets wherein she is donning the fishtail and sitting on the beachside. The actor announced the wrap in her caption and thanked the whole team for a smooth shoot during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bailey stated, "and just like that..that’s a wrap! After auditioning for this film when I was 18 just about to turn 19, to now finishing filming through a pandemic when I turned 21... we have finally made it..."

Hailey feels so grateful to have experienced Little Mermaid in all of its glory. Calling it a 'toughest experience', she added, "Being away from everything and everyone I’ve ever known, to feeling self-doubt/ loneliness, but also feeling such freedom and perseverance as I’ve reached the end."

Hailey said that this experience made her so much stronger than she ever thought she could be.

The actor further thanked her team by writing, "I’m so grateful to have such lovely and talented people in the cast like @jonahhauerking that will be my friend for infinite lifetimes, @jacobtremblay who I’m so proud of and legends like @bardemantarctic @melissamccarthy @awkwafina @daveeddiggs who are masters of their craft but are so welcoming and open to little old me... as well as to the rest of the beautiful cast and crew."

The young actor concluded by stating, "I cannot wait for time to speed up so you all can watch this film because it was made with so much love (plus blood sweat and tears) lol thank you Sardinia for a wonderful ending!!! xoxo."

Directed by Rob Marshall, the film is scheduled to hit the screens on May 26, 2023.
