Hansal Mehta and Bhushan Kumar all set to join hands to make a biopic on the ace choreographer Saroj Khan

If we mention the name ‘Nirmala Nagpal’, it may not ring a bell to many. But, if we say that, she is the same person who has been responsible for choreographing some of the best dances in Bollywood, still, it will leave a question mark on the faces of many. Without much ado, let us tell you that, the name ‘Nirmala Nagpal’ is actually the original name of the extremely respected choreographers that Bollywood has ever produced- Saroj Khan! Even though she is not amongst us anymore, she continues to live through her memorable iconic dance moves.

Speaking of the late Saroj Khan, there are many who were wishing to see her biopic. For all those, here is some good news. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Bhushan Kumar revealed that, his company (T-Series) has joined hands with film maker Hansal Mehta to work on the late choreographer’s biopic.

The news report added that, the said biopic was presently in the writing stages and that the team was planning to tell the story in an episodic format. And since Saroj Khan has been a global icon, film maker Hansal Mehta is completely focussed on his research about her and will leave no stone unturned to touch upon the illustrious and inspiring life of hers. The news report also added that, Hansal Mehta will be taking the said biopic in the next year (2024).

Looking back, Saroj Khan had even performed as a background dancer in the evergreen song ‘Aiye Meheraban’ from the film ‘Howrah Bridge’. She had reportedly started working since the age of three years with the ‘Nazarana’ as child Shyama. She then graduated to become a background dancer in the late 1950s.

In her entire career that spanned many years in the showbiz, there have been many films whose songs had been choreographed by Saroj Khan. These films include ‘Lagaan’, ‘Mr. India’, ‘Chandni’, ‘Chaalbaaz’, ‘Mohra’, ‘Mission Kashmir’, ‘Devdas’, ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, ‘Veer Zara’ and many more.
