On March 7, Nadaaniyan, which featured Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor, premiered on Netflix. But critics and moviegoers alike were not impressed. Many others went to social media to express their disapproval of the performers' acting, and some went so far as to troll them brutally. Hansal Mehta has now responded to these complaints by urging the audience to relax. Additionally, he held producers responsible for casting actors without the training to do justice to their roles.
Mehta stated in a recent interview with ETimes that the insults people are sharing around are in terrible taste. The remarks, he continued, must be "traumatising" to the young performers. Supporting the young actors, the director joked that even their parents had clumsy debuts. However, social media did not exist during that time; therefore, they were exempt.
While Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh's son is Ibrahim, Khushi Kapoor is the daughter of the late Sridevi and Boney Kapoor.
Mehta added that those who commission films should make sure the cast and crew are well-prepared. He said it is unfair to choose performers based on their family tree and that they should be chosen based on their talent.
Additionally, the filmmaker laid the blame on the consultants who help these young actors. He recalled approaching one of these actors about a film project, explaining that their advisors thought they should go with a more traditional route and launch quickly with a film featuring popular music. As Mehta puts it, these advisers are hoping for the same launch that Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff, Kumar Gaurav, and Sunny Deol received. The current problem lies in the presence of advisors who don't keep pace with the times.
Instead of wishing for a large banner or a "big daddy" to guide them, Mehta said that these star kids should concentrate on earning respect via their work. The filmmaker revealed that he had extensively spoken with the star youngsters and found their conversations to be enjoyable. But he did express his dismay at the fact that their decisions don't reflect their views.
He went on to say that paparazzi are more important than movie cameras when it comes to their training.
Khushi played the lead role in Nadaaniyan following her roles in The Archies and Loveyapa. At the same time, the Netflix film marked Ibrahim's debut.
