Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha is going through rough times of late. In the midst of calls to boycott the film, Laal Singh Chaddha is currently witnessing a lacklustre run at the box office as well. Among the barrage of bad luck that the film is witnessing at the moment, some Bollywood stars have raised their voices in support for the film, and filmmaker Hansal Mehta is one of them.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, Mehta spoke of what he thought about the film. Calling it engaging, the filmmaker said that there was a lot to admire about the film. Mehta said that a film like that which was made with so much honesty, heart, care, passion and love deserved to succeed. He also added that he found Laal Singh Chaddha a bit emotionally overstated and politically superficial as well. However, the filmmaker added that he did not find himself either smiling or ‘moist eyed’ for most part of the film.

Hrithik Roshan too recently came out in support of the film. Calling the film ‘magnificent’ and ‘beautiful’, the actor urged people to watch the same. Shortly after Roshan’s Tweet, many users threatened to boycott the actor’s upcoming films as well, including Vikram Vedha, his upcoming film with Saif Ali Khan.

Laal Singh Chaddha is the Hindi remake of the Academy Award winning Hollywood film, Forrest Gump. The 1994 film, starring Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, Mykelti Williamson and Sally Field, was itself based on the 1986 novel of the same name by Winston Groom. The Hindi film stars Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Naga Chaitanya and Mona Singh in prominent roles. The film was directed by Advait Chandan.
