Hansal Mehta created Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story a few years back, which went on to be one of the most popular Indian shows available on OTT. Mehta is now set to return with a second series on the same lines, titled Scam 2003, and he has now opened up about what to expect from the upcoming show.
Talking during a panel discussion by Sony as reported by PTI, Mehta said that Scam 2003 will be entertaining as authentic and all things that the first season was and more with it delving into a new character. He added that the makers will try to incorporate what they learnt from the first season.
“But we have treated season two as a fresh start. We cannot be bogged down by season one, that it was a huge success so we have to repeat it. The moment you get into that trap, you’ll end up disappointing yourself,” the filmmaker said.
Mehta further said that Scam 2003 is a completely fresh take with a new director who will be executing his vision and that they have a new actor who is a sensational find.
Scam 2003 is based on the book Reporter ki Diary, written by journalist and news reporter Sanjay Singh, who is also credited for breaking the 2003 Stamp Paper fraud by Abdul Karim Telgi.
The show will chronicle Telgi’s life, showin how he went from being a fruit seller to becoming one of India’s most infamous counterfeiters. Mehta will serve as showrunner and director on the series.
Mehta’s Scam 1992, which stars Pratik Gandhi as Harshad Mehta, is now available to stream on Sony LIV.
