Hansal Mehta and Pratik Gandhi are one-of-a-kind directors and actors. Together, they have collaborated on a series titled Gandhi. The series becomes the first-ever Indian series to have a world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival, in its 50th edition. Not only Hansal but also A.R. Rahman shared an update on this.
About Hansal Mehta's Gandhi
Hansal Mehta revealed the first official poster of his much-awaited series Gandhi, starring Pratik Gandhi in the titular role. The announcement has generated excitement among fans as the series has become the first Indian series to premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
On X, Mehta wrote, “An audacious dream, born of belief and perseverance, now steps onto the world stage. Gandhi will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2025 as part of its carefully curated PrimeTime slate. The first Indian series ever to be featured at TIFF. Meanwhile, A.R. Rahman, who is the show's music composer, also expressed his excitement. On X, he gladly announced the world premiere of Gandhi at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival 2025, the first Indian series to be selected in TIFF’s prestigious Primetime slate. This series is produced by Applause Entertainment and directed by Hansal Mehta.
When will TIFF 2025 take place?
The 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) will take place from September 4 - 14, 2025. During the festival, Hansal Mehta's Gandhi will be showcased. Although the streaming platform for the series has not been revealed yet, fans are expecting it to be released on an OTT platform soon, right after the festival screening.
Meanwhile, Hansal Mehta's Gandhi will also feature Bhamini Oza as Kasturba Gandhi, and is based on historian and author Ramachandra Guha’s two books — Gandhi before India and Gandhi: The Years that Changed the World.
