Janhvi Kapoor has slowly begun carving a niche for herself in Bollywood. Despite being criticized initially for her wooden presence onscreen; the actress has consistently worked on her performance in different projects. And when a person focuses on one thing with full diligence, sooner or later, victory will be theirs! Similarly, Janhvi has also begun touching the heart of the audience with increasing sincerity in her performance. These 5 films are emblematic of it.

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (2020)

Streaming on – Netflix

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl follows Janhvi Kapoor as the eponymous Indian Air Force pilot, who was one of the first Indian female pilots to fly in a combat zone. The actress portrayed Gunjan Saxena decently, including a touch of innocence and quaintness to the character that is her signature. From being bullied by her male peers to rescuing their injured selves from a high-risk combat zone, Gunjan does it all with only her father believing her, while the rest of the world was waiting for her to fail and ridicule her. Janhvi does as well as her character in terms of expectations for the film, beginning to show promise and improvement.

Good Luck Jerry (2022)

Streaming on – Disney+hotstar

The story follows a young Bihari girl, Jerry, who lives in a small town in Punjab with her sister Cherry and mother. Janhvi Kapoor is charming as the innocent-looking yet street-smart Jerry, who manages to evade the cops and goons while juggling her mother’s illness and drug transport at the same time. A wacky, black comedy, the film explores one of the rare-seen aspects of Kapoor’s acting persona.

Roohi (2021)

Streaming on – Netflix

Roohi had opened to negative reviews from critics due to its slightly convoluted plot. But the film’s humor and climax are worth giving the film a watch. Another reason is that Janhvi Kapoor portrays two different personas. One, as Roohi, a young girl who has been possessed and kidnapped by a vengeful spirit, and Afza, the witchy spirit possessing her who will only leave after getting married. The film was an interesting milestone for the young starlet as horror is a difficult genre to perform.

Mili (2022)

Streaming on – Netflix

The film is a survival thriller with a touching message on the importance of kindness in life. The film sees Janhvi Kapoor as Mili, a part-time mall restaurant worker, who is preparing for her IELTS exams for a job abroad. One night, she gets accidentally stuck in the restaurant’s storage freezer when her manager mistakenly locks her in. As time passes and the temperature drops to 18 degrees, Mili has to fight off the cold till someone notices her missing and rescues her. But how long will her body survive before succumbing to hypothermia and frostbite?

Bawaal (2023)

Streaming on – Prime Video

One of her career best, Bawaal stars Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor in the titular roles and focuses on a layered ‘bawaal’ or conflict. One between the narcissistic history teacher and his beautiful epileptic wife, as well as between Dhawan’s Ajay and the MLA father of a student he had slapped in class. Both can be resolved by one solution. A sincere trip to Europe’s most historical spots with his better half Nisha. But will Ajay be able to overcome his ego or will it be too late for him to work out his marriage and career?
