Telugu cinema has consistently produced films that honour the sacrifices of several unsung heroes for the nation. On India’s 76th Independence Day, we take a look at some of the best Telugu films that blend patriotism with a right mix of commercial ingredients and make for a compelling viewing experience. From 1970s to 2020s, here are some of the finest patriotic films produced in Telugu.

Khadgam

Starring Srikanth, Ravi Teja, Prakash Raj, Sonali Bendre, Sangeetha Krish and Kim Sharma in lead roles, Khadgam is directed by Krishna Vamsi and produced by Sunkara Madhu Murali under Karthikeya Movies. The film has music by Devi Sri Prasad.

Alluri Seetharama Raju

One of Superstar Krishna’s most celebrated films in his stellar career, Alluri Seetharama Raju is the biopic of the Telugu freedom fighter jointly directed by V Ramachandra Rao and KSR Das. The film also stars Vijaya Nirmala, Jaggayya, Rajanala, Chandra Mohan, Sridhar, M Balayya, Kanta Rao, Prabhakar Reddy.

Adivi Sesh plays the titular role and also co-wrote the biopic of the 26/11 blasts hero Sandeep Unnikrishnan, directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka. Sobhita Dhulipala, Saiee Manjrekar, Prakash Raj, Murali Sharma essayed other key roles in the film produced by A+S Movies, Sony Pictures, GMB Entertainment.

Sita Ramam

The film has a Roja-meets-Veer Zaara premise unfolding through the eyes of a soldier caught between his profession and love. Dulquer Salmaan, Mrunal Thakur, Rashmika Mandanna and Sumanth played key roles in the romance written and directed by Hanu Raghavapudi.

Sardar Papa Rayudu

Legendary director Dasari Narayana Rao blends patriotism, father-son drama with finesse in this 1980s hit starring N T Rama Rao, Sridevi, Sharada, Rao Gopal Rao, Satyanarayana, Allu Ramalingaiah, Mohan Babu. The burra katha, where NTR pays a homage to independence heroes, is one of its major highlights.

RRR  

Director SS Rajamouli, weaves a fictional friendship between Telugu warriors Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem, in the film that stars Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran, Olivia Morris and others. The Oscar-winning film has music by MM Keeravaani and is produced by DVV Danayya.
