Emraan Hashmi's epic cameo in Aryan Khan's The Ba***ds of Bollywood, especially his encounter with Raghav Juyal fanboying over him, broke the internet last month. And as if it was not enough to make him the talk of the town, Emraan's new movie Haq left netizens buzzing after the teaser dropped a couple of weeks back. Haq marks Hashmi and Yami Gautam's first collaboration, that too in an intense courtroom drama, inspired by the real-life story of Mohammed Ahmed Khan and Shah Bano Begum.
The Hindi courtroom drama will release in cinemas on November 7, 2025. Haq promises to portray the true legal battle that sparked discussion about justice, personal beliefs, and secular laws for Muslims in Indian society in the 1980s.
Haq highlights the story of Shazia Bano, who takes her husband Abbas to the court after he abandons her and their children. The movie follows Shazia's legal battle, which becomes a national debate about faith, women's rights, and the Uniform Civil Code. Shazia sought maintenance under Section 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Haq is directed by Suparn Varma.
The upcoming movie, based on journalist Jigna Vora's book Bano: Bharat ki Beti, will focus on the fundamental question of whether the Indian justice system should be equal for all citizens, regardless of their diverse religious beliefs. Haq is expected to showcase a Muslim mother's uncompromising courage in fighting for her own dignity and her children's future after her divorce.
The 1-minute teaser begins with the glimpses of a love story between Shazia Bano and Abbas, but he eventually abandons her. Throughout the video, Abbas is seen questioning Shazia's faith and loyalty when she demands her rights. The intense argument soon escalates into a fierce legal battle within the short video. Yami Gautam as Shazia declares that she's fighting for her 'haq' (rights) at the court.
The teaser also emphasises that the court will address larger societal questions that are still relevant today, such as the Uniform Civil Code, faith versus secular law, and equal justice for all citizens.
Apart from Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam in the lead roles, other pivotal characters are played by Sheeba Chaddha, Aseem Hattangady, Danish Husain, and Vartika Singh.
