Emma Watson called the reunion an 'unexpected joy'.
Just as the world welcomes New Year 2022, Potterheads will be glued to their screens to watch Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, which is premiering on January 1. Ahead of the streaming, the makers shared a few excerpts from the reunion special in which Daniel Radcliffe recalls the embarrassing haircuts, Emma Watson describes meeting up with her Harry Potter castmates as an "unexpected joy," and director Christopher Columbus describes the film sets as "the greatest playground in the world."
As per Reuters, when Radcliffe, 32, was cast as the orphaned boy with magical powers, he was only 11 years old. He stated during the reunion on the set in Leavesden, outside of London, that he would be happy to talk about the film at any time.
The actor said that every aspect of his life is intertwined with Potter and Leavesden. Radcliffe quipped that his first kiss was with someone here, and his first girlfriend was here. He shared that it all stems from the Potter set in some way.
Radcliffe also recalls how Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and he despised being told in later films in the series to grow their hair out for a shaggier look.
The Uncharted actor said, "We're like, 'No, no, no, no, no, no. You're not leaving us like this? We're supposed to be becoming teenagers and dating girls in this film! That's not what it's going to be, is it?' So, I think we were pretty devastated as we realized that it was."
For the reunion, Radcliffe, Grint, Watson, and Columbus will be joined by actors Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid), Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy), Gary Oldman (Sirius Black), Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange), and others.
Watson stated that she was overcome with emotion at the reunion after so many years. The actor shared that a few of them hadn't seen one another in years. So it's just been a pleasure and a pleasant surprise for her.
Oldman described reuniting with them as a weird experience because he met them as kids and now some of them are married and have kids of their own.
Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will stream on Amazon Prime Video from January 1, 2022.
