The first look photo from HBO Max's upcoming special, Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, which premieres on January 1, shows stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson conversing in the Gryffindor common room. The show was recorded at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London.

HBO Max captioned the photo as "Like they never left. Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: #ReturnToHogwarts premieres New Year's Day on HBO Max."

The reunion will mark the 20th anniversary of the eight-film series, which began in November 2001 with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. As per the logline, through all-new in-depth interviews and cast conversations, the retrospective special will tell an enchanting making-of story, inviting fans on a magical first-person journey through one of the most beloved film franchises of all time.

According to the press release, Harry Potter and the 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts will also star Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, and Evanna Lynch.

JK Rowling, the author of the bestselling Harry Potter series, will not be interviewed for the special but will be featured in archival footage about the films. She has become a figure of instant, and seemingly permanent, controversy in the passionate and vast Harry Potter fandom due to her anti-trans comments, which have been condemned by the core cast.

HBO Max released a short trailer earlier this week that didn't feature Radcliffe or Grint, but teased other alumni, namely Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid) and Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom), receiving invitations to the reunion.
