Harry Potter turns 20: Warner Bros keen on developing original content based on film series, says CEO

Potterheads rejoice, as there may be more Harry Potter content on the horizon. The CEO of Warner Bros., Ann Sarnoff, recently revealed that she was interested in developing more content based on the popular franchise for a digital platform.

According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, Sarnoff wanted to develop original content based on the characters created by author J. K. Rowling, for streaming giant HBO Max. the executive revealed that the company was in constant touch with Rowling and her team, and would proceed with the project if and when they found an idea that would be a suitable successor to the film franchise.

The announcement comes on the heels of the eight films from the Harry Potter film franchise starting to stream on the platform recently. 

Also in celebration of the movie franchise turning two decades old this year, HBO Max had announced a reunion special titled Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts. The special will feature appearances from the film’s original cast, including Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, Tom Felton, Matthew Lewis, Bonnie Wright and Rupert Grint. The reunion special will start streaming on HBO Max from January 1, 2011. 

Meanwhile the prequel film series to the Harry Potter movies, titled Fantastic Beasts film series has added a recent installment. The upcoming film is called Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, and is slated to be released in April next year.
