Has Netflix acquired the rights of Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif’s Merry Christmas for over Rs. 60 cr? Here’s what we know

There are a few theatrical films which are eagerly expected and anticipated by the cinegoers. But, with the advent of OTT which is now almost running shoulder to shoulder with the theatrical releases, there are many films which are also being eagerly anticipated on the OTT front as well. The Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif starrer ‘Merry Christmas’ is one such film which is one of the most eagerly awaited films that is being readied for a theatrical release. The film, which was supposed to be released in December 2022, has now been postponed to December 2023.

As per a report in Bollywood Hungama, it has been reported that, the digital rights of the film ‘Merry Christmas’ has been sold to Netflix for a staggering amount of Rs. 60 crores! The film is being made in Hindi and Tamil. The same report stated a source saying that the said amount of Rs. 60 crores for a film that is not a direct OTT release is definitely decent, but the satellite rights of the film is yet to be sold.

The film ‘Merry Christmas’, which is being directed the prolific filmmaker Sriram Raghavan, definitely has an array of stars who are leading the project. The film’s leading pair is Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif. Besides them, the film (Hindi version) also stars actors like Tinnu Anand, Pratima Kannan, Sanjay Kapoor and Vinay Pathak. On the other hand, the film (Tamil version) will be starring Rajesh Williams, Radhika Sarathkumar, Kevin Jay Babu, Shanmugaraja, Ashwini Kalsekar and Radhika Apte in important roles. Besides all of these actors, the film will also star a child actor named Pari. The film ‘merry Christmas’ will be the child actor Pari’s debut film. The film ‘merry Christmas’ is now all set to release on December 15 this year.

Only recently, the film’s makers had released the ‘vintage-like’ film posters, which was shared by the film’s lead pair Vijay Sethupathi and Katrina Kaif on social media.
