The film, directed by Mari Ratnam, starred Rajinikanth along with Mammootty, Srividya, Arvind Swamy, Shobana and others. Just like the time of its release, Thalapathi once again encountered a huge reception from fans who watched the film to relive the magic.

For fans of Rajinikanth, who is celebrating his birthday on Thursday, a special treat was organized in the form of Thalapathi's re-release.
Thalapathi is a 1991 film, which is written and directed by Mani Ratnam. Starring Rajinikanth in the lead role along with Mammootty, the gangster drama also features Arvind Swamy, Jaishankar, Amrish Puri, Srividya, Bhanupriya, Shobana and Geetha among others. The film which takes inspiration from Mahabharat characters Karna and Duryodhana, revolves around two friends.
On Thursday, theatres in Tamil Nadu re-released the film, which was met with good reception from fans. With music by Ilaiyaraaja, Santosh Sivan cranking the camera, and direction by Mani Ratnam, the film was highly celebrated. Here are some social media reactions:
Rajinikanth is currently working in Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film is backed by Sun Pictures and stars Nagarajuna, Upendra, Shruthi Haasan, Sathyaraj, Soubin Shahir, and Aamir Khan. An announcement regarding the film is expected to come anything on Thursday, December 12. Anirudh Ravichander is scoring music for the film, which is expected to hit theatres in 2025.
Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is also expected to feature in Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. An official announcement on the same is yet to be made by Sun Pictures.
