Daali Dhananjaya, Kannada cinema’s Natarakshasha, is ready with his second production venture. Barely a year after his debut as producer with Badava Rasal, Dhananjaya’s second home production is a much bigger venture. This time around, he has joined forces with reformed don-turned-author, Agni Sreedhar, to present the story of Bengaluru’s first bonafide gangser, MP Jayaraj.

Based on Sreedhar’s book, My Days in the Underworld, the film, made in two parts, has been directed by debutant Shoonya and has Dhananjaya playing Jayaraj. He is paired with RX100-fame Paayal Rajput in the film that boasts a massive ensemble cast including Loose Mada Yogi, Vasishta N Simha, Raghu Mukherjee, Balu Nagendra, Sruthi Hariharan and V Ravichandran, among others.

Directed by debutant Shoonya, Head Bush Part 1 is releasing in theatres on October. The period film set in the 70s and 80s, will explore Jayaraj’s rise in the underworld to become Bengaluru’s first gangster. MD Nagaraj, the son-in-law of former chief minister Devaraj Urs is believed to have been instrumental in getting Jayaraj a foothold in the underworld. The film, though, is not only about the underworld, and showcases the major political developments in Bengaluru at the time as well.

Although the team has not officially announced its satellite and digital partner, latest posters of the film include Zee Network too. The question now is if the deal is only for the Kannada version of the film, like how team Vikrant Rona did, wherein Zee Kannada and Zee5 Kannada had the Kannada original and the other languages dropped on Disney+ Hotstar. Interestingly, although the film was initially planned as a pan-India release, it was later revealed that the team would bring it out in Kannada only. The dubbing in other languages will happen based on the response to the film. And, if the most recent success of Kantara is any indication, Dhananjaya may have to do that soon enough.
