The past few years, Suraj Venjaramoodu has been taking off varied roles that explore the different sides of him as an actor. In his latest venture, Heaven, he will be playing a police officer and the film’s teaser hints at a pacy investigative thriller that has the actor in a stylish avatar.
The teaser, which was released online on Wednesday, sets up the case taken up by Suraj’s character of circle inspector Peter Kurushingal, who isn’t afraid of going it alone or doling out pertinent advice about women to petitioners.
The visuals of the movie, captured by Vinod Illampally, along with its catchy background score by Gopi Sundar promise an edge-of-the-seat thriller. Directed by Unni Govindraj, the film also has Sudev Nair, Joy Mathew, Deepak Parambol, Vinaya Prasad, Reshmi Boban, Sudheesh, Jaffer Idukki and Alencier Ley Lopez in pivotal roles.
Heaven is scripted by Unni along with PS Subramaniam, who is a circle inspector himself. In an earlier interview with OTTplay, AD Sreekumar, one of the producers of the film, told us, “Though it’s a fictional story, a few sequences are inspired by Subramaniam’s experiences of investigating cases.”
The movie also has an emotional core that would work well with the audience, said the producer, adding that the film’s shooting had concluded a few months ago. Ernakulam and Thodupuzhu were the main locations of the movie, which is currently scheduled for a June release.
Suraj’s latest film as a cop, Jana Gana Mana, is still running to packed houses in select centres in Kerala. The movie, directed by Dijo Jose Antony and starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, is arguably the actor’s biggest hit yet and will have a sequel too, as confirmed by the makers ahead of the film’s release on April 28. Jana Gana Mana will be available to stream on Netflix after its theatrical run.
