A teenage boy’s seemingly innocuous desire to sport a trendy hairstyle popularised by a Kannada superstar is at the centre of debutant filmmaker Bheemrao’s hard-hitting yet engaging social drama Hebbuli Cut, which released in theatres on July 4, 2025. The film, which highlights caste-based oppression in north Karnataka, received fairly positive reviews, but the box office performance did not really reflect that. However, its critical acclaim meant that the makers were able to get the film a post-theatrical streaming deal, with a streaming date now announced.

Hebbuli Cut headed to Sun NXT on...

Hebbuli Cut has been pic ked up by Sun Network and the film will begin streaming on its Sun NXT (via OTTplay Premium too) from August 8, 2025. The film will be available in its Kannada original version only, with English subtitles. The film stars Mounesh Nataranga, Mahantesh Hadapad, Uma YG, Punith Shetty, Ananya MK, among others and revolves around the protagonist trying to put together Rs 200 to get a trending hairstyle, popularized by Kiccha Sudeep that he hopes will be enough to impress a classmate that he likes.

Mounesh is Vinaya, the teenage son of a lowly cobbler, in a village in which casteism still peaks, yet remains blissfully unaware of his ‘place’ in society. Vinaya seeks to impress a girl in his class, who he believes is a Kiccha Sudeep fan, as he found an image of the actor wedged in one of her books. The image in question, though, was of Sudeep from his hit film Hebbuli, in which he sported a stylish hairdo as a para-commando, and Vinaya is convinced that if he too were to have his hair cut like that, she would like him too.

The problem, though, is that the only salon in the village offering such hair styling charges Rs 200 for the same, a sum too exorbitant for his family, who usually get the boy’s hair chopped short by a local wandering barber. Determined to get to his goal, Vinaya finds a way to get the money together, only to then realize that the problem was never really the amount.
