Ever since Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s series, Heeramandi, was announced, audiences have been anxiously awaiting for all and any updates regarding the same. When it comes to his works, SJB has always managed to deliver nothing short of visual spectacles, especially when it comes to his period pieces. The makers recently unveiled the dazzling first glimpse from the series, and it seems to live up to the hype indeed.

The series is based on the stories of courtesans, in an era where they were treated nothing less than queens, and is set in pre independent India, spanning across three generations. The glimpse featured Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Sharmin Segal, Richa Chadha and Sonakshi Sinha, all decked in dazzling jewellery, and donned in bright yellow regal attire.

The caption of the post, shared by Netflix, read “Another time, another era, another magical world created by Sanjay Leela Bhansali we can’t wait to be a part of. Here is a glimpse into the beautiful and intriguing world of #Heeramandi”.

The filmmaker launched the first glimpse of the series at an event in Mumbai on Saturday. The series will also star Sharmin Segal, Niyati Fatnani, Siddharth Gupta, Fardeen Khan and Paresh Pahuja in prominent roles as well. Jackie Shroff will also reportedly be a part of the series as well.

Earlier reports had emerged that Shabana Azmi and Mumtaz were also going to be a part of the show, but their roles had reportedly been scrapped after the duo were unable to join the project. The series will mark SJB’s OTT debut. In an earlier statement, SJB had siad that the series would mark a turning point in his career as a director.

Heeramandi will premiere on Netflix. A release date is yet to be announced by the makers.
