All that glitters is not gold! This is the message communicated by the recently released trailer of visionary director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Starring Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal and Taha Shah Badussha in pivotal roles, the trailer offers a spectacular glimpse into the world of courtesans. May 1 is the release date of this Netflix series.

The exciting trailer takes viewers into the lively area of Heeramandi, where the powerful Mallikajaan (played by Manisha Koirala) runs a prestigious establishment of courtesans. She skillfully manages her world until Fareedan (played by Sonakshi Sinha), the daughter of her former rival, unexpectedly returns, causing tensions to rise within the household.

Meanwhile, outside the luxurious walls of Heeramandi, the city is filled with revolutionary spirit as patriots fight for India's freedom from British rule. Bibbojaan (played by Aditi Rao Hydari), one of Mallikajaan's daughters, also joined the independence movement.

Also, Alamzeb (played by Sharmin Segal), Mallikajaan's youngest child, dreams of a romantic relationship with Tajdar (portrayed by Taha Shah Badussha), the son of a nobleman, longing to break free from the restrictions of Heeramandi. As betrayals increase and forbidden desires clash with societal expectations, the battle for India's independence intensifies. During this chaotic period, Mallikajaan and Fareedan are embroiled in a fierce competition for the esteemed title of huzoor, or the leader, of Heeramandi. Whose leadership will ultimately triumph? Only time will tell.

What did Netflix say about the trailer?

Taking to microblogging site X, Netflix wrote a message for the trailer which read, “In the glittering, regal halls of Shahi Mahal, romance and revolution clash in silence. Sanjay Leela Bhansali's sweeping saga of love, loss and liberation - Heeramandi: The Diamond bazaar trailer out now.”

The trailer launch ceremony took place in Delhi this evening. Sonakshi Sinha was among those present at the launch. The series marks Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s debut in the world of OTT. Stay tuned for more updates!
