When Helen Khan married legendary screenwriter Salim Khan, who was already married to his first wife, Salma Khan (Sushila Charak), it created a difficult situation for the Khan family. Three sons, Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, and Sohail Khan, were also born to Salim and Salma. Helen recalled it and commented that Salma must have experienced a lot, adding that she never wanted to separate the family.

Helen told Arbaaz in the new The Invincibles teaser that Salim offered her a part in a movie. Salama was wonderful, and they grew to be friends. She told her stepson that his mother must have struggled greatly at that time; it must have been difficult for her. Helen believes that all of them are connected to her by fate, and she must thank them all. While almost in tears, Helen said that she never desired a split from the family for Salim.

Salim had helped Helen land a number of film assignments during the 1950s and 1960s. They quickly grew close and fell in love with one another. Helen was 42 years old at the time, and Salim was 45. In 1980, the two were married. In 1954, Salim and Salma got married after a brief courtship. Alvira Khan Agnihotri and Arpita Khan Sharma are their two daughters.

Helen talked about her dance numbers on the same show and said that it was a huge blessing that she could dance in movies until she was 42. When it comes to the film industry, people used to believe that it was not a good thing to work there. The heroines essentially took over; they began to dress in ways that no heroine would have back then. Helen's fate was limited to this.

Helen has also shared screen space with Salman Khan. She played his on-screen mother in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
