Hellbound’s lead actor Yoo Ah-in, who was sentenced to prison for 1 year in drug abuse case, is out within five months. His appeal was heard earlier on Tuesday, February 18, and the actor was released immediately. His initial sentence, considered harsh, was reduced to probation, fines, community service and rehab.

Yoo Ah-in was initially asked to serve a year in prison with regards to his drug case. His appeal was heard in Seoul, after which the actor was released on probation. He was sentenced to one year in prison for violating the Narcotics Control Act, but the Seoul High Court revised the ruling.

Fines imposed on Yoo Ah-in

The actor paid a fine of 2 million KRW (USD 1,390) and penalty of 1.55 million KRW (USD 1,070). Additionally, he is expected to complete 80 hours of community service and attend 40 hours of drug rehabilitation classes during his time outside of prison.

What happened in Seoul HC?

The judges in Seoul High Court found Yoo Ah-in guilty of repeatedly misusing the controlled medical substance but also noticed that he showed no signs of addiction or dependency on the drugs. The actor had used the substances ahead of medical procedures. Taking his medical history of depression and sleep disorders into consideration, the jury found him unlikely to reoffend and thus decided to release him without further imprisonment. During his trial, In-ah remained mostly silent, only bowing in gratitude after hearing the verdict.

Will Yoo Ah-in get back to acting?

Not immediately, for the actor still has to complete his prison duties before getting a complete clean chit. It might be a different story after 6 months-1 year, though. If all goes well, we might see In-ah back in the Entertainment industry. But for now, the wait continues.
